Should you get an ADHD/ADD Assessment?

Understanding your unique needs is essential for personal and professional growth. An ADHD assessment can offer valuable insights and tailored support to help you navigate life's challenges more effectively.

Understanding the Benefits

  • Accurate Diagnosis: Identify if ADHD is influencing your work, relationships, or in daily functioning. A clear diagnosis helps in understanding your challenges and how they affect different aspects of your life.
  • Enhancing Coping Strategies: Receive customized strategies and tools to improve focus, organization, and time management, addressing the specific demands of adult life.
  • Personal Insight: Gain insight into how ADHD impacts your experiences and strengths, fostering greater self-awareness and enabling you to harness your abilities more effectively.

Considerations

  • Commitment of Time and Effort: The assessment process may require a significant time and emotional commitment. Proper planning and support can help you manage these aspects more smoothly.
  • Handling Stigma: Although awareness of ADHD is increasing, there can still be stigma associated with the diagnosis. With strong professional support and personal reilience, you can focus on the positive changes and benefits that come with understanding your ADHD.

Frequently Asked Questions about ADHD/ADD Assessments for Adults

ADHD testing can be completed in as little as one day, with options ranging from a 1-day comprehensive evaluation to multi-session assessments spread over a couple of weeks, depending on your availability and schedule.

Generally, OHIP does not cover ADHD testing, but many private insurance plans may offer partial or full coverage, depending on your provider and policy. Our dedicated intake team is here to help guide you through the process and provide the necessary information to check with your insurance provider.

If you receive an ADHD diagnosis, it will be delivered during an appointment with a clinical specialist and accompanied by a detailed report outlining suggested next steps, such as recommendations for medication, therapy, ADHD coaching, lifestyle adjustments, or other tailored support resources. Our team is here to guide you through these options and help you manage your ADHD effectively.

An ADHD diagnosis does not automatically mean you will need medication; ADHD treatment is highly personalized and may include options like therapy, ADHD coaching, and lifestyle changes instead of or alongside medication. Your clinical specialist and your healthcare provider will collaborate with you to decide the most suitable ADHD treatment based on your specific needs and preferences.

Non-medication ADHD treatment options include ADHD coaching to help develop practical skills and strategies, therapy (like cognitive-behavioral therapy), lifestyle adjustments such as exercise and diet changes, and behavioral interventions to enhance organization, time management, and focus. These treatments can be customized as part of a comprehensive ADHD treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Yes, Springboard offers ADHD reassessments to help evaluate and adjust your current ADHD treatment plan. Our reassessments can provide updated insights into your symptoms and needs, ensuring your treatment remains effective and aligned with your personal goals.

There is no set schedule for ADHD Reassessments. We typically recommend them only if there is a need for a reassessment due to a request for updated assessment documentation, or worsening of daily functioning due to a change in age, life circumstance, or treatment effectiveness.

We are here to answer any further questions you may have and guide you on the right path.
